Between starring in the hit show Billions and taking care of her toddler, Malin Akerman definitely has her hands full. But despite her ridiculously busy schedule, the actress and mother still manages to stay healthy and in shape.

"It's definitely hard to find the time, especially when I'm working," Akerman says. "Like any working mother, I do the best I can and balance my schedule so I have time to take care of myself. Part of that time is working out and making sure I'm eating healthy."

So what are her secrets? She filled us in on some killer tips, and we're stealing them ASAP.

1. Be Realistic With Your Goals

If you're busy, don't pressure yourself into working out every single day of the week. If you stress out over fitting in exercise, it will do exactly the opposite of what it's supposed to.

"When I'm shooting, I always aim for three workouts during the week on average," Akerman says. "It's a realistic goal for me, and then I can supplement it with workouts and activities on the weekends."

2. Keep Your Workout Clothes at the Ready

No one wants to reach into the hamper and put on stinky, sweaty workout clothes ... talk about a major motivation killer! Always having clean options makes it that much more likely you'll reach your workout goals.

"My LG SideKick is my new favorite toy in the house – it's like a wardrobe hack! It allows me to easily wash two loads of laundry at once. That way I can wash that one neutral staple between workouts and then mix and match my tops or bottoms so people think I have a new outfit every day," she says. "It's so quick and easy, plus I don't have to do a whole load of laundry when all I really need is a few pieces of clothes."

If you want to steal Akerman's go-to workout look, it's simple: "I prefer to wear a neutral staple, like a pair of black high-rise tights or a grey racerback tank, and mix it with a variety of bold and colorful tops or bottoms," she says. "My favorite look right now is a colorful ombré tank that goes with any pair of black or gray yoga pants. It's really fun!"

3. Don't Skimp on Breakfast

If you find that you're almost always low on energy during the day, take Akerman's advice and start eating a hearty breakfast to avoid desperate visits to the vending machine later on.

"I always need breakfast. I need that energy to start the day, and it saves me from making bad decisions when the mid-morning hunger kicks in," she says. "I love a green smoothie for breakfast, or sometimes it's eggs or oatmeal."

When it comes to lunch and dinner, she always makes the time to get in filling protein.

"Lunch is usually a salad with protein, and then for dinner I like to do a hot meal – a good one is fish and vegetables with brown rice or quinoa," she says.

As for snacks, she makes it easy to snag something healthy throughout the day.

"I stock my fridge with nutritious snacks that are easy to grab and go because I'm constantly on the move – whether it's on set or doing outdoor activities with my son," she says.
