Darling, sweet, precious, melt-your-heart-into-a-puddle-adorable — there are many terms we use to describe the utter cuteness of puppies. But "brace-face"? That's a new one.
It turns out that while most people don't think of orthodontia for their pets, doggie dentists help lovable pups stay healthy every day. Jim Moore, DVM, of Harborfront Hospital for Animals fits dogs for braces, which are usually worn for a few weeks to correct a health concern.
Dr. Moore realized his daughter Molly's 6-month-old pup Wesley could benefit from braces when he couldn't close his mouth completely after his adult teeth started to come in. "He wasn't playing with his toys and he was losing weight," Molly told BuzzFeed. "It was very worrying for me, and we needed to do something for him to be pain free and live a happy puppy life."
Harborfront shared photos of Wesley and they instantly went viral. We're guessing that many of the 200,000 people who shared the photos could simply relate to the cute puppy's awkward smile. We've all been there!
Moore told BuzzFeed that dog braces serve an important function, but he only performs the procedure about four times a year, so it's sometimes referred to as "unusual." Doggy dental health never looked so adorable. So keep smilin', Wesley, and enjoy living your happy puppy life.
