Can't sleep? Forget counting sheep — your ticket to sweet slumber is at a river in County Leitrim, Ireland. This YouTube video captures the relaxing scenery of a footbridge over a river in Ireland, and the sweet birdsong combined with the sound of running water has been viewed (or should we say slept through?) 12 million times.
Johnnie Lawson, a visual artist, recorded the serene scene two years ago and has heard from people across the globe about its snooze-inducing effects.
"People who were finding it difficult to sleep began writing to me from all over the world – North Korea, the Central African Republic, Beijing, and across the UK," Lawson said.
He's now shot close to 200 nature clips and keeps making them longer. That way, if people wake up a bit in the middle of the night, the relaxing track will still be playing.
One refreshed YouTube user, Steve Goggin, raves about the video, saying:
Since I found this video, I've had longer sleeps and better days. I struggled to go to sleep in complete silence; something was missing and it frustrated me more every morning when I wake up. Now all I do is slip my earphones in, close my eyes, and within a couple minutes the beautiful sound sets me to sleep. I feel so much better in the mornings.
The millions of watchers have also used the calming video to meditate, study, and manage their stress levels. Watch the video above to experience it for yourself — just make sure you're near a pillow.
