This Woman Made $4,800 Betting on Her Own Weight Loss

She lost 102 pounds and gained some serious cash — plus a whole new life.

Jennifer Dennison of Houston weighed 405 pounds when she fell asleep at the wheel in 2015, exhausted and lethargic as a result of her recent weight gain. She immediately knew it was time to take control of her health.

"I wasn't sleeping well, I was exhausted, my diet was not great," Dennison told ABC News. "If anything, I would skip a whole bunch of meals and then binge later."

Bad habits like those can be tough to shake, but Dennison was sure she could do it — so sure, in fact, that she put cold, hard cash behind it.

Looking for ways to stay motivated — she'd already lost 75 pounds at this point by working out with a group and overhauling her eating habits — she stumbled across a weight-loss gambling site. The site works just the way you'd expect: You wage a bet that you'll succeed in your weight-loss goal, and if you don't reach it, you lose your money. Dennison's objective? To lose 100 pounds in 10 months while betting $100 on each month.

"I went to the website and started playing around with the algorithms and figured how much money I would be potentially able to make in a short amount of time," Dennison told ABC News.

At the end of the 10 months, the scale read 102 pounds lighter — and her bank account balance read $4,800 higher. She'd done it. Watching that $100 leave her bank account every month, Dennison said, is what kept her going.

"For me, the goal was just to show up," she explained.

Just goes to show you that betting on and believing in yourself seriously pays off!
