You know the feeling: You're super excited and motivated to finally tackle your fitness resolutions and develop a healthy exercise routine that really sticks. But then you *squeeeeze* into your old exercise clothes (ugh) and brave the sometimes-sub-zero temps just to get to the gym — and find yourself surrounded by people with seemingly perfect, fit bodies who leave you feeling pretty yucky about yourself. It's discouraging, and it can be a major motivation-buster.
That's why inspiring ad campaigns like Lane Bryant's #ThisBody campaign are so important. The #ThisBody ads are exciting and empowering; they feature a number of strong plus-size women (think: Gabourey Sidibe and Ashley Graham) and all the amazing things their bodies can do, and in the process remind us that our bodies are best used for being active, not ashamed.
The most recent addition to the #ThisBody campaign is an ad for Lane Bryant's activewear line, Livi Active, featuring coach, triathlete, and plus-size-athlete advocate Krista Henderson, and it has us feeling all sorts of inspired.
The powerful video features Henderson training and talking about her passion for triathlons. She explains how she loves the variety of sports and workouts that come with being a triathlete and how much she appreciates the supportive community: "Everybody knows how hard it is to get to that place, to toe the line, and there's so much respect and love for everyone who does toe that line."
So here's to another poignant reminder that fitness is for everyone, no matter what your shape or size. As the campaign tagline puts it: This body (aka your body!) is changing the game.
