Q: Can at-home whitening kits over-brighten your teeth?
Oz Says: Not likely. Most people reach a plateau after a few weeks or months, depending on their particular pearlies. A fake look may be due to a lack of gradation in color, says Gerard Kugel, DMD, PhD, of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Teeth tend to be yellower at the root, whiter in the middle, and a little translucent on the edge. At-home whiteners can leave the color uniform; backing off on frequency may help restore a more natural look.
