The weather's getting warmer, the kids are out of school, and our freezers are just begging to be stocked full of frozen sweet treats. Ice cream is the quintessential summer indulgence, but what if you want a healthier version of the classic dessert? No problem — from low-cal to lactose-free, gluten-free to vegan, there are plenty of delicious options. In the name of research, we tested six pints to find out which ones were the tastiest. And it sure was a competition.
Calories: 260 per 1/2 cup serving
Flavor we tried: Salted Caramel
Our review: The back of the pint reads, "Finally! You're found a dairy-free frozen dessert that actually tastes like ice cream." And guess what — it really does! Ingredients in this vegan treat include raw cashews, fair trade evaporated cane juice, and coconut oil.
The price is a little steep for a pint, so it's definitely a splurge when you want something delicious. But considering it came in as our favorite one of the batch, we have a feeling we'll be splurging a lot this summer.
Calories: 70 per 1/2 cup serving
Flavor we tried: Strawberry
Our review: Thank goodness this is such a low-calorie dessert because it's delicious enough to devour the whole pint in one sitting. You'll notice how light it is just by holding the pint in your hand — it weighs hardly anything, but it's still filling in a satisfying way. Low in fat and sugar, it's perfect for a refreshing summer night dessert.
