Think of your body as a sponge—and twists like this seated pose as a way to wring out fatigue. "I find it more energizing than a cup of coffee," says physician and yoga instructor Sara Gottfried, M.D.
- Sit cross-legged on your bed or floor and place your right hand on the outside of your left thigh. Place your left hand behind your back.
- Inhale and lengthen through your spine. Exhale, press your right hand into your thigh, and gently twist to your left.
- Hold for five deep breaths, growing taller with each inhale and twisting a little deeper with each exhale.
Repeat on the other side.
To keep your spine long and straight, imagine a string is pulling the top of your head to the ceiling.
