The new year has arrived, and you're probably feeling pretty good so far. You're motivated like nobody's business, eating healthy, and sticking with your new fitness routine. Well, we'd like to introduce you to a genius idea we've seen floating around Instagram lately: the motivational money jar.
It's beyond simple: Every time you go for a walk, go to the gym, or hit up a group fitness class, you put $1 into the jar. If you have a particularly good week, toss in an extra $5. Then, at the end of the month, you can take the cash in the jar and #treatyoself to whatever keeps you going — maybe a new pair of workout headphones or a manicure. You've earned it! Or, if instant gratification isn't your thing, wait to take the cash out of the jar until the end of the year and you'll have beaucoup bucks to spend on whatever you want (helloooo hot new clothes for a hot new body!) by the time the ball drops next New Year's Eve.
Television personality and fashion designer Lauren Conrad popularized the technique and recommends leaving your jar out in the open so it will keep you motivated. "I suggest placing it near your front door or on your bedside table so it can serve as a constant reminder to 'pay your dues,'" she writes.
